Need a live TV studio? We can help!

What we did at SXSW Interactive this year:

During SXSW this year we set up a live TV studio where we interviewed over 60 technology entrepreneurs and influential experts over 20 hours of streaming across four days. We accumulated over 20,000 views on the stream and had over 15,000 Tweets and Facebook posts related to the content we produced.

Who we worked with:

  • Ustream: We have been building our relationship with UStream over the past three years.

  • LiveU: We have worked with LiveU over the past two years- LiveU enables us to stream full HD content via 3G and 4G network.

  • Echo: Echo provided a real-time platform where anyone using the hashtag #villaustin could see their content displayed in an open format.

  • Tropo: Tropo was one of the main sponsors for the TV studio.

What Newspepper did:

  • One month of pre-planning for four live days of streaming.

  • All pre-promotion of the stream.

  • All studio logistics and booking of guests.

  • Provide production crew and studio staff.
  • Provide on-air talent
  • Post editing of stream interviews and feedback loop.

If your company wants to set up it’s own TV studio for a special event or create it’s own branded channel we can help you!

Three British Girls Looking for Technical Co-Founder (and other updates)

image

The technology industry moves so quickly if you don’t constantly innovate you will get left behind . To stay lean we’ve decided it’s time to innovate and move in another direction here at Newspepper; Our current model of video production and distribution just isn’t scalable enough, we want to build a product that will have an impact on millions of people all over the world.  Over the years we’ve had big contracts from some great clients who we’ve built fantastic relationships with; PayPal, Facebook, The BBC, Channel 4 and the British Parliament. But we recognize the opportunity to build a product that could disrupt the media industry and affect effect millions of people all over the world.

When I started Newspepper in 2008 I wanted to build a citizen journalism site where users could make and upload their own news (hence the name Newspepper, a play on Newspaper Newspepper) I wanted to build a similar version of Current TV or CNN’s iReporter, but It was the beginning of the recession and after pitching to investors in London I could not raise funds. Since then the cost of mobile technology innovation has decreased and we now have the business experience necessary to make this a kick-ass product.

What are we building?

We are going back to our roots - we are building a citizen journalism app for mobile. It will be a mobile video sharing platform but focused for professional publishers. Mobile video is a hot space right now, with consumer facing apps like SocialCam exiting for $60 million, Viddy and Vine (just sold to Twitter). Our app will be similar in functionality but we think we have the secret sauce that will make it an attractive proposition for attracting users who want to build their own TV network and brands who want to advertise on mobile.

We recently won 100k angel investment on a TV show The Angel- whilst we are still negotiating the details of the deal we to get started on the product now.

What we are looking for:

  • Should be a rockstar ‘hacker’ who can excel at both making quick prototypes and making long-term, beautiful designs
  • Strong, diverse programming background (Obj-C, Java, Ruby, PHP, SQL, HTML5, etc.)
  • Experience building server-side web infrastructure
  • Experience building mobile applications (iOS, Android, etc.)
  • Familiar with streaming video, video compositing, and cloud architecture
  • Work well on a team, take charge of project development

What we can offer:

  • Extensive existing client base in both SF and London
  • Experience in online media with traditional and new media brands
  • Distribution to extensive networks
  • Access to high level networks
  • Fun working environment
  • International travel between SF and London

If you would like to get involved and join the fun email hermioneway@newspepper.com

The project will be built under corporation Newspepper Ltd.  Chloe’s position will stay as CEO and Anastasia will take on the COO position. Congratulations girls… lets change the world!

Are You A TV Network Wanting To Make A Reality Show About Silicon Valley?

First there was The Social Network, then Techstars got sold to Bloomberg as a prime time TV show, since then it seems every day there’s a new TV show being made about Silicon Valley. Money is sexy and sexy sells so no wonder startup founders, often worth billions, are the new reality stars.

We’ve been noticing this trend for a while, hell- we even run an event called Hollwood Meets Silicon Valley to track the convergence between the two industries.

Newspepper is an internet production company that fundamentally understands technology, we’ve been making media in the technology space for over four years and with offices in both London and Silicon Valley we are truly engrained into both media and tech.

We are currently working on creating media for a number of projects that would make amazing and engaging TV shows, to give you an idea, one show is a cross between the Amazing Race and the Apprentice and the other is like the XFactor for technology startups, another, a real life Sex And The City; Sex And the Silicon Valley.

If you are a TV network wanting to make a show about Silicon Valley we are the production company to work with and already have pilots to show you.

Newspepper at SXSW Interactive - live shows!

Watch out for SXSW Interactive! The most creative and crazy tech event in your calender.

The event offers a huge variety of panels, keynotes, performances and roundtables.

This year Newspepper is teaming up with Startup Bus and has set a mission - to set up a live TV station in the back of a uHaul and track the progress of the Startup Bus.

Startup Bus is the most talked about projects in Silicon Valley. This great organisation teams people together to create and launch web apps all in the time it takes to arrive at the event!

There are 12 buses this year so plenty of competition as the buses near their destination, Austin. All this excitement is made possible by the sponsors LiveU, enabling us the stream live from anywhere in Austin, and of course the brilliant Viadeo; a project that will boost StartUp Bus’ API to more than 300 ‘buspreneurs’.

We promise to capture all the big moments live with Startup Bus, and sponsored by Viadeo and LiveU, every day from the 6th - 13th March! So make sure you check it out! But for now take a look at the Startup Bus trailer!

Top 5 Tech PR Stunts of 2011!

Sometimes you get companies that are willing to go the extra mile to get their message heard and this year there have been a number of tech-related PR stunts that have succeeded in doing just that….Today, we’re bringing you 2011’s most memorable tech-related PR stunts of the year:

1. Huddle takes on SharePoint on its home turf in Anaheim

At Microsoft’s annual SharePoint Conference in October this year, Huddle, the leader in cloud collaboration and content management for the enterprise, caused quite a stir by sending in a 120 piece marching band, footballers and cheerleaders to the venue. It was a bold move and, as TechCrunch reported, the police tried to shut them down. This is a classic example of a challenger taking on the big boys and having some fun with it. Watch the video trailer, produced by our sister company Newspepper, to see how it all went down!

This stunt was part of a wider marketing campaign, which also consisted of billboards going up across San Francisco.

2. Salesforce vs Oracle – Marc’s keynote moves to St Regis Hotel

This unexpected dispute turned out to be a real coup for Salesforce this year, and truly illustrated the power of PR. When Marc Benioff of Salesforce rubbed Larry Ellison up the wrong way on twitter, Ellison made the error of not rising above the jibes, and took away Benioff’s speaker slot at the Openworld conference.

The backlash resulted in Salesforce gaining more coverage than the speechat the conference would have received, as Benioff indignantly moved his speech to a hotel down the street. With the blogosphere and twitter lighting up that night, Benioff tweeted:  ”You can’t buy this type of advertising. Thank you Larry!”

3. Microsoft Bing vs Google – Jay Z’s Decode book

What do you do when you want to take on Google? Hire a rapper of course! As Silicon Valley and Hollywood continues to converge, Microsoft partnered up with Jay-Z to promote his book Decode. This brilliant campaign seeded out pages of Jay-Z’s book one at a time via a variety of channels, including billboards, on the bottom of swimming pools and even wrapped on a car. Fans were able to track down the new pages in the book using Bing maps and clues left within Bing search engines and social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. The campaign proved highly successful increasing Jay’Z’s Facebook fans by one million and Bing’s search queries by 11% in just one month. As a result it became an award winning campaign at Cannes festival this year.  Watch the video below to see how this amazing stunt was done.

4. Angry Birds contest at 33,000 feet

Everyones favourite iPhone app, Angry Birds, climbed to new heights this year by launching a competition 33,000 feet in the air. Eight super fans of the game were flown by FinAir, to compete in an epic battle while travelling from Rovio’s home country of Finland to Singapore. Watch the promo video below - no wonder it created a buzz for fans all around the world!

5. Morton’s steakhouse twitter stunt

When Peter Shankman tweeted a Morton’s Steak House that he would love nothing more than a juicy steak after a long flight, little did he know that the Morton’s PR team, monitoring the Twitter account, were ready to put the wheels in motion. Morton’s tracked down his arrival time, hired a driver to take him to their local steakhouse and served Peter Shankman’s a steak that would make anyone’s mouth water. Morton’s were rather quick to act on what they saw as a potentially great PR opportunity. It may have had something to do with the fact that Shankman has over 100, 000 twitter followers, as well as being the author of a book called Customer Service: New Rules for a Social Media World. We may not have 100,000 followers, but it still won’t stop us from tweeting at @Apple for the brand new iPhone for Christmas!
